Description
I went to a WW II event where they recreate small vignettes of that time. I saw this vintage clothesline and wash basin with laundry hanging on the line. In the 1940s the families clothes was often done on Monday and took the entire day! Would you believe these were slips (does anyone remember them?) and dish towels! I thought this would be a fun capture and gave it a painterly effect.
I found this, of all things a nursery rhyme about Wash Day.
They that wash on Monday
Have all week to dry;
They that wash on Tuesday
Are not so much awry;
They that wash on Wednesday
Are not so much to blame;
They that wash on Thursday
Wash for shame;
They that wash on Friday
Wash in need;
They that was on Saturday
Oh! They're sluts indeed.

Patrice this sure brings home memories. My mother had to use this method for 14 kids and boy was she happy when my father finally could afford one of those first old wringer washers. I never saw a happier woman. :) I love it, if she were with us today, I would so buy a print of this just for her. Thank you for the good memory. L/F
